Up the Wall with 439 Sq!

More used to driving staff up the wall six cadets from 439 (Linlithgow) Squadron found the climbing boot was on the other foot when they travelled to the world’s largest indoor climbing wall at Edinburgh’s International Climbing Arena for a spot of training.

With training towards the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme Level 1 award it was onwards and very much onwards and upwards for the intrepid six.

During the visit cadets were taught and assessed on a variety of techniques including how to set up a belay and connecting their harness to a rope with retied figure of 8 knot with a stopper knot. As part of their assessment the six had to undertake climbs with a a minimum of 10 routes and 10 belays completed to the satisfaction of the assessors.

A great evening was had by all particularly as all participants in the course passed and became the first Cadets in Edinburgh & South Scotland Wing to complete the Level 1 Foundation qualification in climbing.

All of the training was conducted by the Wing Adventure Training Officer, Squadron Leader Barry McAdam who also undertook the course assessments.
