The main task of the day was to raise the profile of the Air Cadets in the area in  advance of the standing up of 869 (Peebles) Detached Flight in the town later in the year.

With temperatures reaching a scorching 82F the team from 869 and 2180 demonstrated Flight Sim and spent a great deal of time explaining to visitors the benefits of and the opportunities presented by life in the Air Cadets.

Among the many visitors to the Air Cadet Recruitment display were all of the Lords Lieutenant of the Scottish Borders and the Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian all of whom spent a considerable time speaking to Cadets and Staff.

Visiting the stand were:-

Lord Lieutenanat of Tweeddale Capt. David Younger

Lord Lieutenant of East Lothian Sir Garth Morrison

Lord Lieutenant of Berwickshire Maj. Alexander Trotter

Lord Lieutenant of Roxburgh Ettrick & Lauderdale Capt. Gerald Maitland – Carew

Another visitor was the ACF Recruiting Bear complete with Tartan Brassard. One of the more impromptu activities of the day was the “Zapping” of the Bear with Air Cadet Stickers every time he or she passed the Wing Recruitment tent, a task that was successfully achieved on many occasions by some of the 869 Team!

All in all this was a very successful day with a considerable number of enquiries from both potential adult staff and cadets alike.
