National Award for Edinburgh Air Cadet

Cadet Frazer Neil (16) of 287 (4th Edinburgh) Squadron Air Training Corps has been named as a Youth First Aider of the Year 2009.

On Thursday 3rd June 2010, Cadet Neil was presented with a certificate during a specially arranged presentation evening at the Squadron’s newly built headquarters in Edinburgh by Squadron Leader Brian McCotter RAF VR (T) and Squadron Leader Hilda MacAdam RAF VR (T), the First Aid Officer for Edinburgh and South Scotland Wing Air Training Corps.

When asked how he felt about his award, Cadet Neil commented “I’m not really too sure what to say. I’m just overjoyed to receive this prestigious award. It’s fantastic to be recognised for doing my job, being a responsible citizen and a good Cadet.” Also during the presentation evening, 3 Cadets were presented with certificates for passing their Senior Cadet examinations within the Squadron, and Civilian Instructor Tim Hegarty was presented with his official enrolment papers as a new member of staff for the Squadron.

The presentation evening took place just weeks after a number of Cadets from the Squadron participated in a fundraising bag-pack event at Tesco Extra, Corstorphine and collectively managed to raise approximately £300 for the Royal Air Force Association Wings Appeal. The money raised by the Squadron will go towards helping current and ex-servicemen and women and their families through several charities, including the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

The Squadron plan to host an open day during the summer months to show off their new purpose-built headquarters. For more information about the Squadron, feel free to pay a visit any Monday or Thursday to the Squadron which is based in Stevenson Drive, Edinburgh between 1915hrs and 2115hrs.
