The new Air Cadet Flying Scholarship Scheme (ACFSS) has replaced the RAF Scheme. Initially this will consist of the following.- Ten 12 Hour Light Aircraft Flying Scholarships
- Twenty Five 10 Hour Micro light Flying Scholarships
- Four 10 Hour in-house Flying Scholarships (at 7 AEF)
The aim of the scheme is
- Provide a pinnacle of flying experience for selected cadets in pursuit of the primary objective of the ACO.
- Encourage cadets to remain in the ACO as they progress to adulthood, thus increasing the chances of them joining the Regular Services or Volunteer staff.
- Encourage cadets to pursue a career in aviation.
To be eligible for this scheme, a cadet must,
- Be at least 16 to apply and 17 to start the course
- Hold GCSE Grade C (or above) in English and Maths (or equivalent in SCE). A BTech in Aviation studies is an acceptable alternative for Maths.
- Have achieved GS (Silver Wings). Exceptionally those who have completed a non solo (Blue Wings) may be considered.
- Have Parents or Guardians Consent
- Be able to attend for a continuous residential period of up to 14 days.
- Be a member of the ATC or CCF(RAF) until training is completed.
- Have a desire to follow a career in aviation.
