Camps / IACE
UK & OVERSEAS CAMPS

There are various opportunities each year for ATC cadets to undertake camps during the school holidays.

These are normally of 1 week duration, during Easter and Summer Holidays, but some overseas camps are longer. One thing is certain - They are all good value and great fun.

BLUE CAMPS (UK)

RAF Stations in the United Kingdom normally host ATC camps during the School Easter and Summer Holidays.
Here the cadet has the opportunity to spend 1 week sampling life in the RAF, during which time a full training program will such items as
  • Flying
  • Section Visits
  • Shooting
  • Sports
  • Swimming
  • Off Base Visits

being undertaken during the stay.
Scotland and N Ireland Region have, in 2006 and 2007, run a 4 week camp at MOD Machrihanish, on the kyle peninsula, and in 2008 are running these camps split between RAF Aldergrove and RAF Leuchars.

BLUE CAMPS (Overseas)

Gib_camp.jpgTo be eligible for Overseas Camp you must meet the following criteria :
  • Be over 15 Yrs 6 Months
  • Have attended at least 1 UK Camp
  • Have your Sqn Cdrs recommendation

Overseas camps normally take place in Cyprus (Easter) and Gibraltar / Germany (Summer).

Travel to these camps is normally by chartered airline, so the costs are more expensive than the UK Camps.

INTERNATIONAL AIR CADET EXCHANGE SCHEME (IACE)

globe.gifThe IACE Scheme allows cadets from participating countries to exchange with cadets from another country within the scheme. The visit normally lasts around 15 days, during which time you will be hosted both on military bases and also with local host families.

Cadets from the UK travel to countries such as

  • USA
  • Canada
  • Sweden
  • Israel
  • India
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Philippines

Competition for places on these exchanges is very tough, so to be selected for this scheme requires the cadet to undergo a selection interview at Wing HQ. If they receive the wing nomination they will then go forward to the selection board at Regional HQ.

The successful applicant will be awarded one of the regional places on the IACE scheme. Our Region has only around 5 or 6 places to award annually on these visits.

Remember that cadets from the other countries also visit the UK, and you may wish to volunteer to host a foreign cadet for a few days during their visit to this country, which can also be a very rewarding experience.
